The Dream

Okay, if you follow my twitter then you'll most likely have seen the the tweet I posted this morning. For those of you that didn't, let me explain. This morning I woke up in a cold sweat from this really strange dream that I had last night. It wasn't really a nightmare per say, but it did leave me feeling very unsettled and that feeling has stuck with me for most of the day.

The dream took place in the daycare that I attended as a little girl. In the dream I was my four year old self again. It was obviously nap time because all of the other children were asleep. Now, please be aware that when I say that I was my four year old self again I mean mentally as well. I got up from my cot and went into the kitchen to ask one of the adults to get me a glass of water but there was no one there. I went down the hall to the storage room and still couldn't find them. I searched the entire daycare as well as my child self could but there wasn't a single adult in the building.

I looked out the window to see if they were outside but all that I could see were the woods bordering on the playground fence. I wandered around for a bit more before deciding to go lay back down with the other kids in the main room. However, instead of going back to my cot, I walked over to the front door. I stood there staring at it for several minutes before reaching out and gripping the doorknob, twisting it, and pulling the door open. The moment I did so, I woke up.

I've tried very hard not to think about my dream all day but now that I'm focusing on it I'm noticing several things that are inconsistent with my, admittedly vague, memory of that daycare.

Number one, that daycare was never near the woods. It was in the middle of town. I remember because my friends and I used to try to get passing 18 wheelers to honk their horns.

Two, the lack of adults. There was always at least one adult in the same room as the other children and I. It was rare to have only one adult at the daycare during the day. Usually there were at least three.

Finally, the door. That door got locked once all of the children were inside the building. As far as I can remember, that door was never unlocked unless it was recess or we were being picked up at the end of the day or dropped off in the mornings.

I'm not sure what made me dream this. Maybe it was the fact that I ate Apple Jacks for dinner that night(unhealthy I know), that was my favorite cereal when I was little, but who knows. I'm not even sure why I'm blogging about this, but it's helping slightly with the residual anxiety. I guess it's just the fact that I'm getting my thoughts off of my chest. I'm not sure if I'll post anything else tonight, I'm really tired so I'll probably go to bed early.

Until next time, see ya.

Journal 1

I really hate it when parent's don't take the concerns from their child's teachers seriously. Today, just before the assembly, Nathan had a violent seizure. He collapsed and began to foam at the mouth. I managed to stand him up and get him out of the gym before he collapsed again and vomited up more of the yellow foam. I spent several minutes trying to get him aware of his surroundings before taking him to the office and calling his mother to get her to come and pick him up. She took him home but later called to say that he was fine and that he was going to be back at school tomorrow.

She didn't even take him to the doctor and the other staff just accepted it at face value.

This is what I meant by the adults not really noticing things about these children. All of Nathan's classmates were asking about him but the teachers seemed to almost forget about him. It was unnerving to say the least.

National Reading Week

Today our state beauty queen came to read to the kids at the school in honor of national reading week. Now her talent for the pageants is ventriloquism and she brought a puppet with her to show to the kids and every single one of them were absolutely enchanted by it. She read Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat and all of the kids were absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, due to the rain, we weren't able to take the kids outside to work off some of their energy so they were rather wild for the rest of the day.

I managed to get a couple pictures of her while she was reading!

Daily Life

I apologize if I ramble on about random things on this blog but I'm not really sure what I should focus on... Other than talking about my hobbies and nonexistent social life that is. Let's see, I play huge amounts of video games. I have both an Xbox and a PC and some of my favorites are Destiny 2, Halo, StarCraft 1 & 2, and Portal 1 & 2.

I am a horror junkie and am incredibly fond of any and all horror genres.

I read. Constantly.

I have a beautiful 14 year old yellow Labrador named Goldie who is spoiled rotten and loves every second of it.

I also have three cats.

Edgar:

Cinna:

And Rags:

I really can't think of anything else to add so... Goodbye for now I guess!

Chair Thief

Today, when I was working on letter recognition with Tristan, she decided to take off down the hallway while dragging her chair along with her. It took me several minutes to get her to come back, during which she had placed the chair on her head and was walking in circles. It was absolutely hilarious and I just had to take a picture.

Journal 0

Now, on another note, I do have another reason for creating this blog. In the past two months that I've worked with the school I've noticed a few...odd...things about a few students. The teachers seem not to notice them which I find strange since these occurrences are rather obvious about the children. Not all of the kids have these issues, only one or two from each classroom but the way that the teachers seem to just sort of...pass over the problems is concerning. There are five children in particular that are...off.

Nathan: Seems to be perpetually sick. He coughs constantly and often falls asleep if he sits still for too long and it's always difficult to wake him up.

Peyton: Has sudden fits where he will begin to scream and cry for no reason. I heard his mother speaking with his teacher and apparently he has them at home as well.

Ric: He often has violent nightmares and will cry in his sleep before waking up during nap time.

Harmony: She has seizures, sometimes as many as five during the course of the day. The cause is completely unknown.

Tristan: She often hallucinates and sometimes refuses to go outside for recess.

They also seem to have the exact same imaginary friend who they call Mr. Talman. This is a character that they couldn't have made up together since none of them are in the same class and they tend to avoid one another when out on the playground during recess. I guess it could be a coincidence but considering just how active a child's imagination can be I find it highly unlikely.

I'm concerned that there might be a child predator in the area. I'd go to the police but I really don't have enough evidence and I'm afraid that I'd get blown off. For now, I'm going to use this blog as a sort of online journal for what I find.

Black History Assmbly

Today was the school assembly for Black History month. Several students from the upper grades had been working non stop to get ready for this and the result was fantastic!! The school choir sang and danced to several different songs, some of the female students performed a dance, and a pair of first grade boys did an adorable lip-syncing performance to Candy Girl by New Edition. I am incredibly proud of the Pre-K students who were extremely well behaved and managed to sit relatively still for the hour and a half assembly.

Here are some pictures of the choir performing one of their songs and the dancers as they performed. I wish that I had been able to video it, but unfortunately I didn't have my camera and was forced to use my phone which is also the source of the bad photo quality.
